Travel guides built on paid bookings

Marilu Horry is a travel desk for people who would rather read the details than the brochure. We book the rooms, walk the sites and eat the meals at our own expense, then publish what the trip actually cost and what went wrong. No sponsored picks, no pay-to-rank lists, and no hotel praised because someone sent a press release.

The work starts with a simple question: would we book this again with our own money? A heritage stay has to make the visit easy, a retreat has to deliver the programme it advertises, and a countryside inn has to feed you without a long drive. We compare the total price, including taxes, transfers and the extras that appear at checkout, because a cheap headline is not a cheap trip.

Our five sections cover heritage sites, wellness retreats, countryside stays, travel guides and food escapes. Each guide names the trade-offs instead of hiding them: the room that is too noisy, the retreat that is mostly a spa hotel, the market town that is closed on the day you arrive. We update prices and policies through 2026 and correct mistakes in public.

Every recommendation is written for a real budget. We note when a cheaper option is better, when an upgrade is worth the money and when the smartest move is to stay somewhere else. That is the whole method: pay attention, keep the receipt, and tell readers what we would do next time.
